View Full Version : A Veterans Prayer
Do not abandon me, Lord. My God, do not go away from me, Lord, my Savior. (Ps 37)
Lord Jesus,
we hear in the Psalm the cry and the plea that you do not abandon us.
May we, with each new day,
grow closer to you and never be in situations where we feel you have abandoned us.
For in our times of need and pain, it can feel like you have left us.
Amen.
The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. (Ps. 93)
Lord God,
there are times in our lives when we think of ourselves and not of others.
The prophet Isaiah spoke the words “Here I am – send me”.
May we be able to respond with these same words when we hear of others needing our assistance.
May we respond with gratitude for your love for us and be there for others.
Amen.
Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live. (Ps. 69)
Lord Jesus, we hear in scripture who is my neighbor?
We also hear that the one in need is our neighbor and we are to respond to their needs.
Help us to think of others rather than ourselves.
Help us to be able to put side our own needs.
Help us to respond to those around us who are in greater need than we are and help us to do so with joy in our hearts.
Amen.
To the upright I will show the saving power of God. (Ps. 50)
Lord, our help and our guide,
we hear in scripture about Jesus giving his commands and how there will be divisions with families and among people.
Sometimes we find ourselves at odds with someone be it with a family member,
with a friend or a coworker and we are not really sure why.
Yet it is sometimes very difficult to find peace with that person.
Sometimes something happened so long ago that neither person can really remember only that they are not at peace with each other.
During these times, help us to learn to forgive and to reach out in peace.
Amen.
My Light and My Salvation
The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Of whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life.
Of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked-- even my enemies and my foes--
came upon me to eat up my flesh,
they stumbled and fell.
Though a host should encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear:
though war should rise against me,
in this will I be confident.
One thing have I desired of the Lord
is that will I seek after;
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple.
Psalm 27: 1-5
The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. (Ps 65)
Lord Jesus, we hear in the Psalm that the seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.
May our lives be planted in good soil and grow to become strong examples of what is needed to follow you with our whole hearts and to remain faithful to our yes in being witnesses to your presence in our lives.
Amen.
Prayer for Trust in Jesus
O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.
- St. Ignatius of Loyola
Prayer of Hope
O Lord,
in Whom is our hope,
remove far from us,
we pray Thee,
empty hopes and presumptuous confidence.
Make our hearts so right with Thy most holy and loving heart,
that hoping in Thee we may do good;
until that day when faith and hope shall be abolished by sight and possession,
and love shall be all in all.
Amen
- Christina G. Rossetti (1830-1895)
Do not forget the poor, O Lord. (Ps. 10)
God our Father, sometimes we have days that we wish we were not alive.
We are struggling at work or in school, we are fighting with family members or coworkers and nothing seems to be going right.
When we have these days help us to remember that you are always with us,
to guide us, to inspire us and to assist us in trying to get out of our own way.
Help us to be humble enough to reach out to you for help.
Amen.
May Love Abound
May the lonely be comforted.
May love abound and divisions between us cease to exist.
May all beings of the earth feel safe and free of fear.
May we each continue on the path towards enlightenment with gladness and diligence.
Amen.
To the upright I will show the saving power of God. (Ps. 50)
Often times we are in need of a sign from you that someone is ok or that something will happen.
Guide us in our need to hear from you that we may grow in our trust in you.
Help us to realize that the better way to live is to place our lives into your loving care and allow you to direct our every move.
Amen.
Fire Captain's Prayer
Dear God,
Please guide me in my plight.
Help me think quickly, but safely.
Guild my hand to help those who are seeking knowledge.
Give me the wisdom to help the injured and the weak.
To help those who have no thrive for life.
Grant me the strength to fight the fire with assertive skill.
And God please grant me the ability to return home, to my family.
And, if in your wisdom I may give my life,
protect them from harm, no matter what the foe.
Amen

Lord, be my rock of safety, the stronghold that saves me. For the honor of your name, lead me and guide me. (Ps 30)
Lord our God,
As we walk this journey of faith,
we are aware of how we need to come before you asking for forgivenss in our lives,
may we grow in our desire to increase our time in prayer before you each day.
Amen.
With you is the fountain of life, O Lord. (Ps. 36)
Lord Jesus,
today we remember the life of St. Mary Magdalene who spent a good portion of her life as one of your followers.
As we reflect on the readings we are reminded that her life is an example of conversion.
We, too, have experiences in life that lead us to profound moments to deep conversion and these times call us to profess our faith.
May we imitate her faithfulness and deep love for Jesus and be as eager to witness as she was.
Amen.
Prayer of Thanks
Almighty and gracious Father,
we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them.
Make us, we beseech thee, faithful stewards of thy great bounty,
for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of thy Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Lord, your mercy is my hope, my heart rejoices in your saving power. I will sing to the Lord for his goodness to me. (Ps 12)
Almighty God, you are Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we recognize the presence of your Son in our lives and desire to follow in his footsteps here on this earth.
Your Son bore witness to your presence in our world and gave us the gift of eternal life.
May all our actions and words lead us to receive this promise of eternal life,
where we will live with you for all eternity.
Amen.
Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me. (Ps. 138)
God our Father and protector,
in the scriptures we hear about what it is to be a friend to someone.
Let us pause this day to remember our friends, to pray for them and to give thanks to God for this gift of friendship.
May we be present to our friends in their time of need,
to take time to celebrate their joys and to be with them in their time of sorrow.
Amen.
Prayer for the Courage to Look Within
May all sentient beings have the courage to look within themselves and see the good and bad that exists in all of us.
May we open our hearts,
shining the light of love into the dark recesses where doubt and fear reside.
May we have the courage to step into that light and embrace whatever we find,
letting it rise to the surface freed by the act of loving kindness.
Amen.
For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us. (Ps. 79)
All-powerful and ever-living God,
we hear in the scriptures about the one who sows the seeds.
As we walk this journey in life we encounter people that lead us down the unhealthy path in life and cause the life within us to begin to die off.
Like the seed planted where there are weeds help us to make good decisions concerning the people we surround ourselves with and guide us to make healthy decisions for ourselves in all of our relationships.
Amen.
God is my refuge on the day of distress. (Ps. 59)
Lord our God, we are reminded that the walk with you can have some rocky ground and that it is not always smooth underfoot.
Help us to always be on the lookout for obstacles that may come into our path and guide us to always keep our focus on you.
Amen.
Prayer of Thanks to Jesus
Oh Christ Jesus,
Our Lord Our God,
Our Holy Redeemer,
Our Saviour.
I thank you for this day,
For your infinite Love,
Your forgiveness of sin,
Your Crucifixion,
Our Redemption and Salvation.
For our Blessed Mother,
Your saving Grace,
And all your gifts of Love
Amen.
May All Be Filled With Joy and Peace
May all be filled with joy and peace.
May all beings everywhere,
The strong and the weak,
The great and the small,
The meek and the powerful,
The short and the long,
The subtle and the gross:
May all beings everywhere,
Both seen and unseen,
Dwelling far off or nearby,
Being, or waiting to become:
May all be filled with lasting joy.
Let no one deceive another,
Let no one anywhere despise another,
Let no one out of anger or resentment
Wish suffering to anyone at all.
Just as a mother with her own life
Protects her child, her only child, from hurt,
So within yourself let grow
A boundless love for all creatures.
Let your love flow outward through the whole universe
To its full height, depth, and broad extent,
Then, as you stand or walk,
Sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a onepointed mind:
Your life will bring heaven to earth.
Amen.
May There Be Peace Within
May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to be...
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you...
May you be content knowing you are a child of God...
Let this presence settle into our bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of you...Amen.

Prayer for the Nation
Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage;
We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will.
Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners.
Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.
Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues.
Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.
In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
- Thomas Jefferson
Help Me to Stay Sober
Dear God,
Thank you for this day.
Help me to stay clean and sober, just for this day.
Help me to recognize your hand in all things.
Thank you for the blessings I understand and the ones I don't.
Thank you for the miracles I see and the ones I don't.
Thank you for your spirit who always abides in me.
I ask that I may be with your spirit today.
Cleanse my mind of all darkness and fill it with love and light.
Let me be o.k. with this day no matter what it brings.
Thank you for everything that's in my life and everything that's not.
Amen,
