We are counting down the days and hoping no snowstorms up here when they do come in! Will have to send some cards to cheer them so they don't have the after Christmas blues.

Marine Moms and Dads congratulations on your sons and our hero "Brother's" on being short timers. I pray they all come home safe. My Vietnam squadron is about to deploy for it's first time since Nam and I hope they all come home safe like your sons.

Welcome 2/8 members, family and friends. I hope you enjoy your new home here and I pray that all our military personnel will stay safe and return home.
The nature of the military will always find our service men and women serving in harms way. It was no different in my day or of those that served before me. It is a good feeling when the chips are down that another Marine is watching your 6.

To those members of the 2-8 group. I have reduced the size of your icon to make it into a avatar for you. This way it will show that you are a part of that group. Any members that have not posted here can add it by going to your UserCP at the left top of the page and clicking it. It will take you to your information page where you can click Avatar and then pick the 2-8 avatar on page 3 of the icons.
I hope this is to your liking.. and please feel free to visit any of our other forums on the main forum page. They are there for all of you. We are all family. I would say that most of the men on this web page have seen duty in one branch of the service or another (but mostly U.S. Marine Corps).
I personally have been a Marine for more then 50 years and retired for more then 30 years. I stepped through the gates of MCRD San Diego on May 28, 1956. I stopped being a recruit and became a Marine upon my graduation from boot camp on September 10, 1956. You are not a Marine until you have completed our boot camp. But you are well on your way once you have that title of Marine Recruit.
I raise my hand in salute for those that have gone before me and those that have carried on after me.

I have a bro-in-law, Warner that was in Korea, also. He was Army, although we don't hold it against him... Has a Purple Heart with the V (for Valor), although, it is hard to get him to tell us about it much. Some better now that he is finally, getting some counseling. Mostly, he told us about how COLD it was. Know you all didn't have much for cold weather gear. Wrnr did say the sleeping bags were, "Pretty good."
TY all, where ever and whenever you served, you all did your jobs. Each one was important to us here in the USA.

To you Mom's and Dad's of our Marine Corps family.. What does it take to help?
How does one become a sponsor? How does one give.. and to who? How are donations made?
I think it would help if some of these questions could be answered.. here in the open... where all can be seen.. Do you have a spokesperson? If so, who is that spokesperson, and how do we contact that person?

Welcome aboard !!!
It does my heart good to see we have a place for the 8th Marines families/ friends to come and chat.
I am a retired Marine Corps 1stSgt, served 20 years and 20 days active duty. And had the honor to being the 1stsgt of H & S Co 2/8 back in 1978 - 79. while being stationed at Camp Le Juene.
Been a long time since then but you can be sure of one thing........your sons, husbands or friends who are serving with the 8th Marines are serving with one of the best Regiments in the Marine Corps. They are better trained than we were back in the old days due to the new weapons we have now. And the leadership doesn't change. The young officer's and NCO's are ready for the task at hand. Be assured if there is a way the Marines have the will and can get the job done.
Semper Fi.......and keep the faith.......The Marine Corps does take care of its own........:salute:

This morning we were off line for several hours because we had a hacker attempt to disrupt or destroy or data base. When this happens our server closes down as part of our security settings. We are now back on line and have run all of our safety checks again. But it does take time to run our safety checks.. normally a total of 7 or 8 hours. Our server runs in safe mode and much slower when we are doing this. We are now done and should be back up to full speed.
