Marine recruiters exceeded their June goal of shipping 3,742 active-duty enlistees to boot camp, according to a Defense Department release.

The Corps sent 4,113 active-duty Marine hopefuls to its recruit depots in San Diego and Parris Island, S.C., surpassing its goal by 10 percent, the release said.

The Reserve recruiting goal was also exceeded by 92 enlistees, nine percent more than the 986 recruits the Corps was aiming for, the release said.

During June, all three recruiting districts east of the Mississippi River, comprising the Corps’ Eastern Recruiting Region, met their recruiting with a day to spare, said ERR spokeswoman Maj. Gabrielle Chapin.

Though it’s not uncommon for individual districts to occasionally meet their monthly goals early, June marked the first time in recent memory that all three districts in the eastern region accomplished the feat simultaneously, she said.

The Marines assigned to the Corps’ Western Recruiting Region have “consistently met their recruiting and shipping goals” all fiscal year as well, due to their “Herculean efforts,” WRR spokeswoman Maj. Kristen Lasica wrote in an e-mail response to questions July 3.

“The bottom line is, young men and women want to be Marines,” Chapin said.
