Hello,
My name is Heather. I have no idea if I am putting this is the right forum, and I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong place. I am currently (beginning) research on the Vietnam war, specifically on Marine Recon units (and Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol). I have several questions which I hope a Vietnam Veteran or anyone else knowledgable about the Vietnam war could help me with.
1. Did all members of a Recon unit (was it called a unit?) enlist or were some drafted?
2. Did all members go to Recon school?
3. Could you choose to be a medic or radioman or were you assigned?
4. How were the LLRP and Marine Recon units missions different?
5. Were any units cut off from communicating with an extraction team? If so, did they have a specific rallying point?
6. Were reporters or photojournalists allowed to go on parts of the missions?
7. How long were missions?
8. How often did Recon units encounter NVA that resulted in fighting?
This is the first time I've every asked for help in a chat room, so I appologize if I have offened anyone with the content and/or phrasing of my questions. Thank you very much in advance to anyone who answers me.
