"Salvation is of the Lord."
--Jonah 2:9
Salvation is the work of God. It is He alone who quickens the soul "dead in trespasses and sins," and it is He also who maintains the soul in its spiritual life. He is both "Alpha and Omega." "Salvation is of the Lord." If I am prayerful, God makes me prayerful; if I have graces, they are God's gifts to me; if I hold on in a consistent life, it is because He upholds me with His hand. I do nothing whatever towards my own preservation, except what God Himself first does in me. Whatever I have, all my goodness is of the Lord alone. Wherein I sin, that is my own; but wherein I act rightly, that is of God, wholly and completely. If I have repulsed a spiritual enemy, the Lord's strength nerved my arm. Do I live before men a consecrated life? It is not I, but Christ who liveth in me. Am I sanctified? I did not cleanse myself: God's Holy Spirit sanctifies me. Am I weaned from the world? I am weaned by God's chastisements sanctified to my good. Do I grow in knowledge? The great Instructor teaches me. All my jewels were fashioned by heavenly art. I find in God all that I want; but I find in myself nothing but sin and misery. "He only is my rock and my salvation." Do I feed on the Word? That Word would be no food for me unless the Lord made it food for my soul, and helped me to feed upon it. Do I live on the manna which comes down from heaven? What is that manna but Jesus Christ himself incarnate, whose body and whose blood I eat and drink? Am I continually receiving fresh increase of strength? Where do I gather my might? My help cometh from heaven's hills: without Jesus I can do nothing. As a branch cannot bring forth fruit except it abide in the vine, no more can I, except I abide in Him. What Jonah learned in the great deep, let me learn this morning in my closet: "Salvation is of the Lord."
Seek the Lord while he can be found. Call on him while he is still near. (Is 55)
God our Father, we need your help in our lives. This day we call on you to give us hope when we feel discouraged, to give us peace in time of despair, to give us joy in times of sadness and to give us love in those moments that we feel alone, isolated and forgotten. We cry out to you, please hear our prayers this day and everyday of our lives. Amen.
Job 23:3
Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
Justice shall flourish in his time and fullness of peace forever. (Ps 72)
Lord, we desire so much to live in peace and that justice will flourish in our time. Yet, our humanness gets in the way and we fall to temptations and live with our limitations. We are in need of your forgiveness in our lives and we need to reach out to those who are hurt by our selfishness and greed. Help us to recognize the need for your help and guidance in our lives. We ask this in your name. Amen.
"The Lord our Righteousness."
--Jeremiah 23:6
It will always give a Christian the greatest calm, quiet, ease, and peace, to think of the perfect righteousness of Christ. How often are the saints of God downcast and sad! I do not think they ought to be. I do not think they would if they could always see their perfection in Christ. There are some who are always talking about corruption, and the depravity of the heart, and the innate evil of the soul. This is quite true, but why not go a little further, and remember that we are "perfect in Christ Jesus.
Nations, hear the message of the Lord, make it known to the ends of the earth; Our Savior is coming. Have no more fear. (Is 35)
Lord God, we desire to be whole and are in need of your forgiveness. Hear our prayers as we cry out to you and help us to prepare for the coming of your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Spouses' Prayer
Lord Jesus,
grant that I and my spouse may have a true
and understanding love for each other.
Grant that we may both
be filled with faith and trust.
Give us the grace to live
with each other in peace and harmony.
May we always bear with one another's weaknesses
and grow from each other's strengths.
help us to forgive one another's failings
and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness
and the spirit of placing the well-being
of one another ahead of self.
May the love that brought us together
grow and mature with each passing year.
Bring us both ever closer to You
through our love for each other.
Let our love grow to perfection.

Lu 10:23
And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
The Lord is kind and merciful; slow to anger and rich in compassion. (Ps 45)
Lord Jesus, in these days that we are living, there is much sadness and fear in our world. Help us to turn towards you for strength and courage to bear the tragedies and sorrows that we are facing and help us to grow in trust that we will know of your presence in our lives and in the world. We ask this in your name. Amen.
JOB.23:3
"O that I knew where I might find HIM, who is my God! that I might come even to His seat!" God's children run home when the storm comes on. It is the heaven-born instinct of a gracious soul to seek shelter from all ills beneath the wings of Jehovah.
Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths; all humankind shall see the salvation of God. (Lk 3)
Lord, we come before you this day in our hope of loving you more each and every day. As we prepare our hearts and our lives to celebrate your birth, may we be blessed with hearts that are open to celebrate the gift of your life and with lives that will truly know your love for us. We ask this in your name. Amen.
Ps 27:1
¶ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Justice shall flourish in his time and fullness of peace forever.
Lord our God, we come before you this day in need of your help in our lives. We ask for your help in our times of weakness, that you will give us strength to bear witness to your presence in our world. During this time of uncertainty in our world, we need to see that justice will flourish and peace will be on this earth. We ask this in your name. Amen.
De 32:4
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
The Lord our God comes in strength and will fill his servants with joy. (Is 40)
God of mercy and consolation, we stand before you this day in need of your mercy and consolation. We desire to have our lives touched by this joy and to stand in your presence in gratitude for this gift of joy in our lives. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
For the Poor and Neglected
Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ps 40:17
But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.
O Leader of the House of Israel, giver of the Law of Moses on Sinai: come to rescue us with your mighty power.
Almighty God, we await the celebration of the birth of your Son into our world. As we prepare our hearts and our homes to receive the presence of your Son, may we take time to reflect on what we have lived and to reconcile all that has kept us from truly being totally in your presence. Amen

Lord's Prayer for the Military Wife
Lord, Grant me the greatness of heart to see,
the difference in duty and his love for me.
Give me the understanding to know,
That when duty calls he must go.
Give me a task to do each day,
to fill the time when he is away,
And Lord, when duty is in the field,
Please protect him and be his shield.

Prayer for Those In Despair
Send your life-giving Spirit
upon those who despair of living,
O generous and loving God.
If it is your will,
let them find rest from their labors
that they may have peace.
If there is a call they have not heard,
open their eyes and ears to know it
that they may find the joy of abundant life.
Grant them your blessing this day
and every day.
Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word. (Lk 1)
Lord Jesus, we are preparing for your brith in our lives, our homes and our world. May the examples that Mary revealed to us in preparing for your birth become part of our lives, as we continue to walk with Mary in our journey of faith. May we grow in our love for you and our courage to share this love with others. We ask this in your name. Amen.
