Joseph F. Rittmeyer, 86, Fayetteville, NC
Joseph F. Rittmeyer, 86, of Fayetteville and formerly of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He follows his lovely wife of 57 years, Alice, who died Nov. 8, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Rebecca Ortiz of Fayetteville; his son, Michael Joseph Rittmeyer of Atlanta; and five grandchildren. He proudly served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, having participated in the initial landings at Guadalcanal on Aug. 7, 1942, and later at the Cape Glouster, New Britain landing. Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at 10 a.m. with military honors. There he will join his wife, who is waiting. Arrangements by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
