Orlando A. "Gigs" Gagliardi, 83, Ambridge, PA
Orlando A. "Gigs" Gagliardi, 83, a lifelong resident of Ambridge, PA, passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord, with his family at his side on Sunday, February 24, 2013. Born March 29, 1929, the son of the late Francesco and Giovanna Guido Gagliardi, Ambridge. He served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War and as an Ambridge fireman with 37 years of service; retiring as the Fire Chief. He continued to serve his town for years as an elected Borough Councilman; a member on the Ambridge Water Authority Board and Past Commander of VFW, Ambridge Post 165. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed years of camping with his family and relatives at Pymatuning. He was lifelong member of the Good Samaritan Catholic Church. Gigs is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth (Fleet) Gagliardi; his devoted and caring children, Frank (Cindy), Oklahoma; daughters, Sandra Eckle, Pittsburgh and Joni, at home; his brother, Samuel (Patricia) Gagliardi and sister, Rose Beck, both of Baden. He has four wonderful grandsons to carry on his legacy, Max and Gus Gagliardi, Oklahoma, and Scott and Sean Eckle, Pittsburgh. He was Uncle Gigs and much loved by his nieces and nephews, Debbie (Ralph) Strano, Joann (Anthony) Gennaro, Susan Beck, John (Diane) Gagliardi and Ann Gagliardi Allison. He was also uncle to eleven great-nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by the Guido cousins, the Alfredo Gagliardi family and the Fleet families. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were an infant sister, Rose and 12 year old brother, Sammy; a brother-in-law, James Beck, and nephew, Jim Beck. Friends will be received Friday, March 1, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. The Ambridge Fire Department will hold a service at 6 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Syka Funeral Home. A Christian entombment will follow at Sylvania Hills Mausoleum, 922 Sunflower Road, Rochester, PA15074. Members of the U.S. Marines veterans will provide full military honors at 11 a.m. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and kindness given to him at West Hills Health and Rehab in Moon Twp.
