Joseph Frederick (Joe) Carter, Sr.
April 21, 1937-December 9, 2011

LOUVALE, GA- Joe Carter, 74, of Louvale, GA, died Friday, December 9, 2011, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA.

A service will be held Saturday, December 17, at 11:00 a.m. in Historic Church Row at Marvin Methodist Church in Louvale, GA, with the Rev. Brad Faircloth officiating.

Joe was born April 21, 1937 in Richland, GA, the son of Frederick and Emily Carter of Omaha, GA. He was Methodist by faith and a retired Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1956. Gunnery Sgt. Joseph F. Carter was a career Marine with 20 years of service. He served two tours in Vietnam and retired as a disabled veteran.

He is survived by his three children, Valerie and Bill Lord of Monroe, GA, Joe Carter Jr. of Winder, GA and Lisa and Joe Simon of Cumming, GA; his sister Emiline and Bobby Brown or Greensboro, GA three nieces, Vivian and Bob Vance of Cumming, GA, Elaine and Will Cavender of Woodstock, GA and Sylvia and Dave Short of Cumming, GA; 4 grandchildren, Derek and Lisa Smethers of Lawrenceville, GA, Kyle Carter of Buford, GA, Billy and Nicole Lord of Loganville, Ga; and 1 great grandchild Donovan Smethers of Lawrenceville, GA.

Flowers are accepted and may be mailed to 501 Old Louvale Road, Lumpkin, GA 31815 c/o Sarah Richardson or donations may be made to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund at https://semperfifund.org/donate/.
