Ray K. McNamara Ph.D, 82, Dallas, TX

Ray K. McNamara Ph.D, Of Dallas, TX passed away peacefully November 28, 2012. Born August 14, 1930 in Springfield, MA to Martin William McNamara, Sr and Eva Catherine Marsden, Ray attended St. Joseph's High School in Pittsfield, MA, graduating in 1948. Ray married Patricia Ann McNaughton on December 27, 1952 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Pittsfield, MA. Ray proceeded to St. Michael's College in Colchester, VT graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. After graduation, Ray joined the Marine Corp's 1st Marine Division as a 2nd Lieutenant stationed in Quantico, VA. Ray was quickly promoted to 1st Lieutenant and then Captain where he served his country honorably as a tank commander during the Korean conflict. Ray received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Returning to the United States Ray enrolled in graduate school attending the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA earning a Masters Degree in Psychology. Ray and Pat moved to Norman, OK where Ray attended the University of Oklahoma where he earned a doctorate in philosophy (Ph.D). After moving to Dallas, TX in 1966 Ray began his career as a child psychologist at the Dallas Child's Guidance Clinic. Later, Ray opened a private practice in clinical psychology where he practiced for the next 44 years. Ray was a gifted psychologist, well known within the medical community and respected by his peers. He helped countless young children, adults and seniors with his medical expertise, dedication and caring nature. Ray was an Adjunct Faculty Member of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Ray was a loving and good Father to his 4 children Jim, Keith, Lisa and Joe. He provided for their every need and was there for them unconditionally. Ray enjoyed reading, sports, music and travel. He ejoyed running and ran in the Dallas Turkey Trot for years. At the age of 65 Ray won his age group bracket in a separate 5K event. His passion was professional baseball especially the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox. Ray loved all music but his favorites were Eric Clapton and Bruce Springsteen. Ray was a huge asset to this world and the people around him. He contributed so much to everyone, especially those in need. For those who knew Ray, his sense of humor and open mindedness are unmatched. We praise Rays's accomplishments in life and are very proud of him. God bless you and may your soul rest in peace. Ray was preceeded in death by Patricia Ann McNamara of Dallas, TX, his eldest son James Martin McNamara of Dallas, TX, brother Martin William McNamara, Jr. of Chicago, IL and sister Doris Warren of Pittsfield, MA. He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Sanders of Mansfield, TX, 3 loving children Keith Andrew McNamara of Dallas, TX, Lisa McNamara May of The Colony, TX and Joseph Patrick McNamara of Dallas, TX. Ray is also survived by son in law Jimmy L. May of The Colony, TX, niece Alicia McNamara Grott of Chicago, IL, Sister Margaret McNaughton of Springfield, MA, Lisa Rose McNamara of Fort Worth, TX, 4 grandchildren Jacob Lee May of Austin, TX, Sean McNamara, Joshua McNamara of Silsbee, TX, Jason McNamara of Portland, OR, 2 step daughters Dorothy Edwards and Husband Aaron of Hurst, TX, and Audra Polk and Husband Mark of Euless, TX, 1 step grandson Edwin Polk, 1 step granddaughter Miranda Polk and 2 great grandaughters Arwyn Benet McNamara of Silsbee, Tx and Olivia McNamara of Portland, OR. Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday Dec 4 at Restland's Memorial Chapel, followed by burial services at 1:30pm at the DFW National Cemetery 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway Dallas, TX 75211.
