Paul David Spotted Horse, Sr.

Paul David Spotted Horse, Sr., 71, of Lodge Grass, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in the Crow Agency IHS Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ahpaaxchia "White Cloud" was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Crow Agency, a son of Martin Spotted Horse, Sr. and Phyllis Plenty Hoops.
Ben and Tillie Whiteman Runs Him Pease raised him, until the age 12. He attended schools at the Antler Country School, Rotten Grass and Lodge Grass High School. While in school, he actively participated in football and basketball. Following his education, he served in the U.S. Marines.
He later participated in rodeos, where he was a bareback and bull rider.
Paul married Charlotte Yarlott in June of 1955 in Sheridan, Wyo., and the couple made their home in Lodge Grass.
During the early years, he worked on area ranches including the Curley Wells and Murray Brown ranches, later for TERO, was a director of the Crow Detox Center, counselor for Ft. McKenzie in Wyoming, a bilingual teacher at the Crow school and custodian for the Lodge Grass High school until his retirement.
Paul loved to hunt and camp in the Big Horn Mountains with his family and friends.
He was a member of the Crow Zion II and the Lodge Grass First Crow Indian Baptist Church. His children affectionately knew him as "Mr. Dad."
His parents, brothers, Ben Pease, Willard, Stanley, Reuben and Martin Spotted Horse, Jr. and his sisters, Bethanna Iron and Josephine Russell preceded Paul in death.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of the family home; his sons, Paul, Jr. (Roberta) of Hardin, Oliver (Patricia) and Thomas (Geraldine) of Benteen; his daughters, Carolyn (Leon) Pretty Weasel of Soap Creek, Tori (Oliver) Half of Crow Agency, Phyllis Spotted Horse of the family home and Pauletta (Terry) BirdinGround of Lodge Grass; his sister, Regina Stewart of Lodge Grass; his brother, Oliver Pease of Billings; four grandchildren whom he raised as his own, Janelle (Gareth) Reed, David Blaine, Jr., Brandon (Leanna) and Mandale (Janette) Spotted Horse; his adopted sons, Thomas Yarlott, Reuben Stewart and Franklin Red Wolf; an adopted daughter, Francine Morrison; his aunts, Carol White Clay, Alice Mae Tobacco and Winona Plenty Hoops; his nieces and nephews, whom he took as his own, Angie (Hartford) Bear Claw, Leitha and DeLauria Spotted Horse, Mark (Betty) and Reuben (Paula) Spotted Horse; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as his extended family including the Plenty Hoops, Pease, Don't Mix, Whiteman, Yarlott, Morrison, Old Bear, White Fox and Stewart families.
The family would like to thank Dr. Albert Zavatsky for all the special care he provided to our father.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Lodge Grass First Crow Indian Baptist church. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
