L/Cpl John E. Hale USMC, 20, Shreveport, LA (Iraq)

The Department of Defense announced today the death of six Marines who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Julian M. Arechaga, 23, of Oceanside, N.Y., died Oct. 9 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Lance Cpl. Jon E. Bowman, 21, of Dubach, La., died Oct. 9 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Pfc. Shelby J. Feniello, 25, of Connellsville, Pa., died Oct. 9 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Lance Cpl. John E. Hale, 20, of Shreveport, La., died Oct. 6 from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Lance Cpl. Stephen F. Johnson, 20, of Marietta, Ga., died Oct. 8 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Cpl. Bradford H. Payne, 24, of Montgomery, Ala., died Oct. 6 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Lance Cpl. John Edward Hale

GREENWOOD, LA - Funeral services for Lance Cpl. John Edward Hale, 20, will be held at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath's Funeral Home Southside Chapel, Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery, Meriwether Road.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 14, 2006.

Lcpl. John Edward Hale died Friday, October 6, 2006 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq while in service to his country. He was a member of the 2/8 G Company 2nd Platoon of the United State Marine Corps, also known a "America's Battalion." John was born in Ologonpo City, Philippines. He spent most of his short life in Shreveport, LA. He graduated from Huntington High School in 2005. He was an active member of the JROTC, the Hiking Club and the football team. While still in high school, he joined the Marines' Delayed Entry Program, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Before his death, he had been in Iraq, for only three months. He believed in his mission.

John is survived by his loving parents, Mr. And Mrs. Phillip Gregory Hale of Greenwood, LA; his sister, Sonia Langford and her husband, Jerry Langford of Lufkin, TX; his sister, Paula Moreno and her husband, Pete Moreno, Jr. of Shreveport, LA; his brothers, Justin Martin of Shreveport, LA and Phillip Davenport of Mississippi; paternal grandparents, Don and Sondra Lewis of Jacksonville, TX; maternal great-grandmother, Blanche Basinger of Shreveport, LA. He is also survived by five nephews, one niece, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He had a family of friends at Huntington High School, the Shreveport area, Camp Lejeune and serving with him in Iraq.

John was a hero in every since of the word. He touched many lives and will never be forgotten. Semper Fidelis, brother. You will be missed.
