Gary C. Wheeler, 74, Peoria, IL

PEORIA - Gary C. Wheeler of Peoria passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 25, 2009, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

Gary was born on Sept. 2, 1935, in Peoria, Ill., to Gerald G. and Blanche E. (Trotter) Wheeler.

Gary was a proud graduate of Peoria High, Class of 1953. There he made many friends that he stayed close with throughout his life.

From 1955 to 1958 Gary served in the Marines as a gunnery sergeant for Camp Matthews in California.

He married Patricia Largent on Dec. 22, 1955, and together they had three children, Kimberly, Holly and David.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and James Clark; and his two grandchildren, James and Morgan McClung.

Gary's fondest moments in life were when he was surrounded by his family and friends. He spent a great deal of time at swim meets, football games, wrestling meets and track meets. Other moments were either spent outdoors or grabbing a cup of coffee with one of his many friends.

The family will be accepting visitors on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at his daughter's home, 1027 W. Westwood Drive, Peoria.

Donations may be made to the Animal Care League, 1013 Garfield, Oak Park, IL 60304 in honor of Gary's love for animals.
