Major William Penry Jr. USMC (ret)

William Penry Jr., 57, a retired U.S. Marine Corps major, died Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 2004, at a Dallas hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper, with the Rev. Lawrence M. Hammond, officiating. Burial: Following committal services with Marine Corps military honors, Bill will be laid to rest in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: He will lie in state Tuesday at the funeral home, where his family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Great Room.

Honorary bearers of his casket will be John Penry, William Marcantel, Richard Lee, Jay Ward, John Toeplitz and Fred Ganske.

Memorials: Mr. Penry's family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his name to Cancer Care Services, 623 S. Henderson St., Fort Worth, Texas 76104; or American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, Ill. 60018.

A native of Harlingen, William Penry Jr. was born May 19, 1947, the son of William and Vertie Klein Penry. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi before attending the University of Houston, where he received his undergraduate degree. Bill married the former Kathy Wilson on Dec. 31, 1969. He later received his master's degree from Pepperdine University.

Following retirement from the Marine Corps in 1990, Bill was employed by General Dynamics Services in St. Louis, Mo. He left GDS to join Shipley Associates and DynCorp before moving to the Metroplex in 1993.

Survivors: Wife of 34 years, Kathy Wilson Penry of Fort Worth; sons, Brian, Joshua and Travis Penry; brother, John Penry and his wife, Becky, of San Antonio, and their children, Ian and Evan; mother-in-law, Vivan Wilson; and sister-in-law, Betty Wilson, both of Wharton.
