Paul Edward Bielling, 88, Gainesville, FL

Paul Edward Bielling was born June 1, 1927 in Atlanta Georgia and died June 20, 2015 at home.

Mr. Bielling was a life-long resident of Florida.

He grew up on his family's farm in Providence, Florida. Immediately after completing high school he enlisted in the Unites States Marine Corps near the end of World War II. At the conclusion of WWII he was stationed in northern China with the First Marine Division until 1948. Upon returning home from the Marines he enrolled in the University of Florida. He was recalled by the Marines in 1950 due to the Korean War and was stationed at Camp Pendelton, California.

Mr. Bielling graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Forestry, which became his life's work. During his career he worked for the US Forest Service on three national forests [DeSoto, Osceloa, and Ocala], the Florida Forest Service as Marion County's first County Forester, and then engaged in private forestry consulting until retirement. He and his wife Margy acquired a few hundred acres of forest land near Ft. McCoy in Marion County in the late 1950s where Mr. Bielling applied his forest management skills. Mr. Bielling believed in and practiced stewardship of the land and took pride in thoughtful management of natural resources. He was recognized in 1992 by the Florida Forestry Association as the Tree Farmer of the Year and in 1996 as the Forest Stewardship Land Owner of the year.

Mr. Bielling is survived by his wife Margy, his son and daughter, three grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the University of Florida Austin Carey Forest Learning Center near Gainesville, Florida.
