Earle C. Seidel Jr., 89, Shamokin, PA

Earle C. Seidel Jr. 89, of 903 E. Packer St., Shamokin, entered into God's heavenly embrace on Saturday morning, Dec. 31, 2016.

Born in Mount Carmel on April 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Earle C. Sr. and Mary (Haas) Seidel.
He was a 1945 graduate of Shamokin High School and a member of that year's undefeated District IV championship basketball team.

As president of the Class of 1945, Earle enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during his senior year of high school. He served his country during WWII and the Korean War. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

On July 29, 1950, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, he married Rita T. Gryskiewicz, who survives.

While still in high school, he began working at Shroyer's Dress Factory sweeping floors. More than 46 years later he retired from the same company as a well-respected, much loved manager.

Earle was a man of devout faith and a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
He always enjoyed the beach, watching the Phillies and Eagles, and taking on a myriad of home improvement projects around the house.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Bob Erb, of Matthews, North Carolina, and Linda and Enrique Gonzalez, of Coal Township; six grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy and Bradley Erb, Ian Chucoski, Tanika and Tevin Gonzalez; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Eli, Molly and Katelyn Erb, Preston Chucoski and Benjamin Lane Jr.; one brother, Bill Seidel, of Mesa, Arizona; two sisters, Amy Martin, of Boca Raton, Florida, and Ruthann Hubler, of Mesa, along with many nieces and nephews.

Earle was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jimmy; and an infant daughter.

To his family, he was a loving son, brother, husband and father. In his later years, he especially enjoyed his role as Pappap to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. To his many friends and coworkers, he was a man of integrity, never hesitating to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. The world has lost a beautiful soul and heaven has gained an angel.

SEIDEL Memorial Service lead by Pastor Sam Bellavia will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 114 N. Second St., Shamokin. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Earle's memory to Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 114 N. Second St., Shamokin, 17872. Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor, 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
