John Brackney "Bud" Harris Jr., 81, Boise, ID

John Brackney "Bud" Harris, Jr. 1930 ~ 2011 --- John B. "Bud" Harris, Jr. was born July 20, 1930 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the second of five children of John Brackney and Osha Opal Harris. As a young child he moved with his family to Boise. John married Doris Ortiz-Lopez of Puerto Rico in Pascagoula, Mississippi on May 28, 1949 while John was serving in the US Marine Corps. John and Doris moved to Boise, Idaho where they resided until his passing on August 2, 2011. John worked as a skilled heavy equipment operator for construction companies including M K Construction, Galey Construction and Western Construction, building roads in the Pacific Northwest. John was especially noted for his skill as a dozer operator. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (AFL-CIO), Local 370A since June 19, 1952. John mad many friends through his work; many of which carried through to his retirement. John is survived by his wife, Doris; sister, Dorothy Milstead; brothers, David, Dick, and Bob; four children: Linda Mae Lillard; Nancy Lee Van Curen (Bruce); Sally Ann Harris; and Mark Harris (Gena); eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Richard McChrystal, PA-C, for providing John with many years of health care. Dad had a special affinity for Richard and trusted his medical judgment implicitly. We would also like to thank Legacy Home Health and Hospice for tending to the family and dad during his last few days and hours; especially Lorinda, Dorothy, Matt, Dalyn, Chris, Jay, John, and Vaughn. A viewing will be held from 9:00 am until 10:30 am, Monday, August 8, 2011 at Cloverdale Funeral Home with graveside services concluding at 11:00 am at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the Cloverdale Funeral Home Reception Center. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in John's name to the VFW, American Legion, or a favorite charity. To share memories with the family please visit Bud's memorial webpage online at
