John Jack Flanagan, 81, Egg Harbor Twp, NJ

JOHN JACK FLANAGAN --- Peacefully entered into the arms of our Lord surrounded by his loving and devoted family on April 9, 2012 after a long, courageous fight. A life-long resident of Egg Harbor Twp. He was born on June 4, 1930 in the home in which he passed from this life. Thanks to many earthly angels he and his family' s wish to bring him home was fulfilled. During his childhood he attended St. Peter RC Church in Pleasantville. He graduated from Atlantic City Vocational School in 1951. After graduating he entered the Marine Corp and proudly served during the Korean War. When he returned from the Marines he meet the love of his life Dolly and the two were inseparable from that point on. John worked for his brother Mike as an electrician for 40 years. After retiring from electrical work he worked for the Egg Harbor Twp. School Systems grounds department. One of John' s passions was his dedication to serving his community as a Cardiff Volunteer Fireman for 58 years, 48 years of which he proudly served as Captain. During those years he developed many friendships with his fellow firemen that he held deeply in his heart. In 1995 the company honored him by dedicating an engine in his name that will be forever called, The Captain Jack. John was a devout Catholic, his strong faith was passed along in his words and deeds. He was a member and usher at St. Katharine Drexel Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed most of all, time spent with his family, his wife's delicious home cooked meals, many talks and laughs with his daughter sitting around the kitchen table, talking sports with his son in-law, Gator rides with his grandson, working in the yard, Notre Dame football, John Wayne movies and he was certainly proud of his Irish heritage. He was completely dedicated to his family and would be there in any need. John is predeceased by his parents Michael and Ann Flanagan, his brothers Stan, Mike, Ed, Joe, and Jim Flanagan, his sisters Mary Martin, Ann Vernom, and Roseann Daley. John is survived by his devoted wife Dolores Dolly (Palmentieri) Flanagan, the apple of her father' s eye; his daughter Annmarie Mullen and her husband Bob which he always lovingly referred to as my son and his grandson John Robert Mullen who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his loving sister-in-law Anna Steelman who graciously opened her home and her heart to John until his addition at home was complete, his sister-in-law Marie Palmentieri; brother-in-law John Palmentieri (Louise) and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Egg Harbor Twp. with a visitation at 10:00 at the church. Burial to follow the Mass at Zion Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Cardiff Vol. Fire Company or St. Katharine Drexel Parish. Arrangements are entrusted to and written condolences may be sent to:
