GySgt Gary A. Carter USMC (ret), 54, Newport, NC

Gary A. Carter, 54, of Newport, died May 30, 2009, at Carteret General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 2 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel.

He was a retired Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps and was currently working as a deli associate at Wal-Mart. He was president of the Newport Little League and served on the Parks and Recreation Committee for Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Carter of the home; daughter, Bethany Morton of Newport; two sons, Brian Carter of Raleigh and Brandon Carter of Newport; two brothers, Joseph Carter Jr. of Florida and Daniel Carter of New Jersey; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Newport Little League, PO Box 668, Newport, NC 28570.
