James Landy Cathey, 84, Dayton, NV

James Landy Cathey passed away January 13, 2013, with his loving wife of 32 years Laurel, and his family at his bedside. Jim is survived by his wife Laurel, Sons Steve Cathey (Cathy) of San Diego, CA, Ron Madison (Hazel), Joel Madison (Kim), Scott Madison (Lisa) and grandchildren Bryan and Sarah Madison all of Reno; grandchildren Brandon Drury, Taylor Rose Doonan, Zachary and Austin Wilms all of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by two daughters Cherie Cathey and Shawn Cathey Doonan. Jim was born in Reno May 11, 1928 and died at his home in Dayton, NV, as he wished. He was very proud of being a native of Reno and attending Mt. Rose Elementary School and Billinghurst Jr High. He always regretted not being able to attend Reno High School as he moved to San Francisco, CA with his mother at the age of 14. After graduating from Bates High School in San Francisco Jim joined the Marine Corps fell in love and moved to San Diego and started a family. Many years later he was able to return to the Reno area where he met Laurel. Jim was a meat cutter by trade, opened J&J Meats on Arroyo and S. Virginia St. and then moved to Incline Village where he will be remembered as the owner of the meat Department at the Village Market. Upon retirement he moved to Smith Valley then back to Reno and then to Dayton. Jim was a caring loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He attended every sporting event possible to support his grandchildren. Everyone who knew him will miss him. Services will be held Wednesday, January 23 at 1:00pm at Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave. Reno, NV 89503. Family and friends unable to attend please visit (you will need to have Internet Explorer) to view the service.
