Robert S. Solakoff, 77, of Brockton, MA

Robert S. Solakoff of Brockton died November 3, 2017 in the Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 77.

He was born in Boston, and was the son of the late Alice (McGaughey) and Walter Solakoff. He was raised and educated in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge Latin High School in 1958. He attended Northeastern University, and later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving his country, Bob worked as a police officer at MIT in Cambridge for 39 years, and retired as SGT. Bob was an athlete and avid sports fan. In high school he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was co-captain of his football team at Cambridge Latin, and went on to play football while serving in the Marine Corps. He was a very proud man who enjoyed spending his time with his family. He frequently shared stories of his athletic experiences and Marine Corps service with his grandchildren, which inspired some of them to also enlist in the armed forces. Over the years, Bob remained connected to the Marines. He would go out for breakfast each Saturday morning with a small group of Marine veterans. They would talk about anything from politics to sports to their days in the corps. He also attended many reunions held throughout the country.

Husband of Patricia E. (Ferrick) of Brockton. Father of Denise Catania of Raynham and the late Sheila Creney. Grandfather of Kaitlyn Creney, Meghan Creney, 2nd LT Ryan Creney US Army, Jaclyn Catania, Rebecca Catania, Lance CPL Matthew Catania, US Marines and the late Michael Catania.
