David A. Gaskell, 84, of Mendon passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was the loving husband of Evelyn N. (Aldrich) Gaskell.
David and Evelyn celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past year. Dave, as he was known to many, owned and operated Gaskell's Service Station for over 50 years before his retirement. He was born Dec. 4, 1932, the son of the late Henderson and Grace (Wood) Gaskell Hutchinson, and the stepson of the late William Hutchinson. He had been a resident of Mendon for most of his life and was a graduate of Uxbridge High School, where he excelled on the football and baseball fields. A veteran of the Korean War, Dave proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving a Purple Heart for his wounds. Dave was a Past Master and member of Solomon's Temple Masonic Lodge in Uxbridge. He enjoyed working in his yard; walking his little buddy, Rocky; and rooting for his favorite New England sports teams. He also liked to spend a little time in the kitchen, where he was known to make delicious meatballs the size of softballs. But most of all, Dave loved spending time with his family, from family gatherings on Sundays and summers by the pool to annual trips to New Hampshire with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by his children Karen S. and her husband Bruno Rossacci of Hopedale, Cindy L. Rando of Douglas, and David M. and his wife Tammy L. Gaskell of Mendon; a son-in-law, David A. Rando of Milford; one brother, Russell T. Gaskell of Uxbridge; and four grandchildren, Nicholas D. Rando and his fiancée Melissa I. Vondras, Brian J. Rossacci, Kristen M. Rando and Matthew B. Rossacci. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Pantano, and his brother, Donald Gaskell. Funeral services and burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at 24 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02133, or to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA 22172. www.bumafuneralhome.com
