MSgt Kenneth L. Stevens USMC (ret), 68, Tacoma, WA

Master Sgt. Kenneth L. Stevens United States Marine Corps (Retired) Kenneth L. Stevens, 68, of University Place, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, in his home with his wife and children at his side. He was born Aug. 27, 1937 to James E. and Ruby Stevens at Fort Lewis Army Post in Washington. Ken proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1954-1976 and served in Vietnam from 1962-1963, and again from 1966-1967. He was CEO at Western Furnaces in Tacoma from 1980-1997. Ken was honored with a Good Citizen Award from the Tacoma Fire Department for saving the life of a man whom he pulled from a burning house. He found pleasure in building things, road trips, hunting, traveling, hiking, white-water rafting, and especially enjoyed times he spent with his good friend Roger on the racquetball court, but his happiest time was spent with his family around the dinner table or barbecuing in the back yard. Ken is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathryn Stevens of University Place, his three daughters: Tamera Stevens of Olympia, Jodi (Lance) Thomason of Spanaway, and Teresa (David) Cominskie of Virginia Beach, VA; his two sons: Michael (Angel) Stevens of Bethesda, MD and David (Lauren) Stevens of Oviedo, FL; a brother, Jerry (Michelle) Stevens of Westchester, CA, a sister, Diane Stevens of San Jose, CA, nine grandchildren: Katie Lopes, Christina Stevens, Derek Cominskie, Devin Cominskie, Jacob Stevens, Samuel Stevens, Bailey Stevens, Vanessa Stevens, Dylan Cominskie; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kaemani Lopes, numerous nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law Irene Sammons. Ken was absolutely the guiding light of his family and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2006 at Life Center, 1717 S. Union St., Tacoma. Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington on April 10, 2006 at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
