George J. Shelton, 74, Cape May, NJ

George J. Shelton, 74 - of Cape May, went peacefully to meet his Savior on Sunday April 2nd in Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, with his loved ones by his side. Mr. Shelton was born in Newport, NC, and has lived in the Cape May area for over 50 years. He was a commercial fisherman, working many years for Walker Fisheries, in Lower Township. He later worked for Randy Laudeman at Cape May Bait. George was a veteran of the US Marine Corps 1st Division, serving during the Korean War. He had received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. He enjoyed FL vacations and family get togethers. He was an excellent marksman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and especially gardening. He was a member of the Cape May Methodist Church, and loved his Church and his church friends. Mr. Shelton is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Betty (Bailey) Shelton, his children: Bonnie (and Doug) Canova, of Villas, Bryna (and Ralph) O'Neal, of Del Haven, Sherman (and Jeff) Springfield, of Georgetown, DE, Jimmy (and Linda) Shelton, of Wildwood, Janine (and Ben) Sanchez, of Millville, Yvonne (and Eddie) Iames, of Thornton, PA, Albert Shelton, of North Cape May, grandchildren: Frankie, Heather, Dougie, Bethany, Candi, Kylene, Samantha, Jared, Mackenzie, Lindsay, and Tyler, great grandchildren: Breanna, Wesley, and Trista, his brother, Ray, of Millville, and his sister, Nellie, of FL, his mother-in-law: Grace Kelly, of Millville. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 8th, at 11 AM in the Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington St., Cape May. The family will be receiving friends after 10:30 at the Church. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Cape May United Methodist Church, PO Box 472, Cape May, NJ 08204. (Sudak-Danaher FH, Cape May)
